5 Prayers for Your Home
My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest – Isaiah 32:18
Since the majority of us have spent more time at home over the past few months, I thought this prayer guide was appropriate at this time. Whether you are working from home or working outside the home, whether you are doing virtual classes or going to school, whatever your home life looks like at this time, for many of us, our homes are a place of sanctuary. The author gives ideas to guide readers in praying over their homes and families by walking around and through our homes, welcoming the Holy Spirit to surround our spaces and our people with the love and protection of our Savior.
A Prayer Walk
Start by walking the perimeter of the outside of your home, circling it with God’s hedge of protection.
The Outside Perimeter
Jesus tells the story of two homes. One house is built by a wise man upon a rock, and it stands against all odds. The other is built by a foolish man upon the sand, and it collapses in the face of turmoil. As we walk the perimeter of our houses, let’s pray for our families’ salvation and relationship with the Lord to be built upon the firm foundation of Christ, our Rock.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. – Matthew 7:24-27
Windows, Doors, and Porch
Pray for God’s protection for our families as we pass by the windows, walk on the porch, and enter through the doorways.
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. – 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Kitchen
The kitchen is the heart of the home, the place where our families gather and are nourished. The kitchen table is the place where conversations take place, and relationships are fostered. We want to take time to pray for God’s blessing and protection over everything we do here to love and nurture our families.
They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts. – Acts 2:46
Living/Family Room
The Living room is a comfortable place for us to gather as a family or with our friends. It is a place of comfort and relaxation. We live as a family in this room. The author guides readers to "pray that this room will foster a life of loving one another.
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. – Ephesians 4:32
Bedrooms
We live crazy busy lives sometimes. God did not intend for us to cram so much into our days that we don’t have time for proper rest. I am not talking about just sleep; I am talking about having downtime to refresh and renew. Let’s pray for our family members to experience this kind of rest.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30
Amen
This guide has inspired me to use the idea of 'Home' as a way to pray intentionally as I pass through the rooms of my home. The author encourages readers who are at a different point in their lives to take this walk on behalf of the family that lives away and pray for love, comfort, and peace to be in their lives.
