Disciple Making
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… (Matthew 28:18-19a).
When my sons were younger we loved to go on new adventures. They were never long trips but it was new to them. We would hike through the woods to find a fresh spring. We uncovered worms to take fishing. We would spend time looking at trees and animals that crossed our path. They were just learning. I did the same thing with my father. He taught me how to camp, hunt, fish, and to identify different parts of the natural world. I learned it and then gave it to my boys.
The adventure of the church is to do what Jesus did. He invested time and energy in the spiritual lives of men and women He met along the way. It was new to them. They had the job of learning it and then giving it away to others.
Disciple Making is an intentional relationship in which we walk along side other disciples in order to encourage, equip, and challenge one another in love to grow toward maturity in Christ. This includes equipping the disciple to teach others also.
The idea is easy. You share what you know. Over the years you have gained many truths and principles from God’s Word. You have developed into a disciple. Give what you have away. Be intentional about disciple making. Connect with someone you meet this week and talk about God. Share a story, scripture or sermon.
The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2).
